Finn practically floated back into the Underworld, buoyed with the knowledge that he'd just made a dear friend. In no time at all, he was seeking out Poe, hoping that the other was done with his duties for today.
When he did find him, Finn met him with a kiss before doing anything else. "I met someone on the surface."
He couldn't remember going so long without seeing Finn. They did wander off and do their own things, sometimes, but he was used to seeing Finn pretty much every day, for most of it.
Though. Who knew what time really meant, down here.
When he heard his lovers voice he smiled, some of the bitter weight of the days judgements slipping from his shoulders. He was witness to the worst of humanity, much of the time, and the ones that he had dragged down into the depths of hades today were worst than most. He wanted nothing more than to utterly forget their wretched existence.
So when Finn gave him a kiss he warmly returned it, even if he looked tired.
"Sounds like you had a far more enjoyable day than I did," He replied, sliding an arm around his lover's waist. "I didn't realise you'd been up there." Finn got away with going to the surface more often than he did. Poe assumed Zeus and the others turned a bit of a blind eye to the kinder edge of Death.
Poe did look tired, and Finn's smile fell a bit when he realized he'd been neglecting his lover. His hand combed through Poe's hair, keeping one arm around his shoulders to stay close.
"Demeter's daughter, Persephone," he answered, his smile coming back a little. "Rey. She's incredible. She creates life, and it's so beautiful."
But he couldn't just focus on Rey here. "Are you all right?" Finn kissed his brow. "Want to talk about it?" Poe rarely did, and Finn knew it was meant to shield him but he didn't like it. If he could, he'd be the one protecting Poe from everything.
"I'm all good," Poe replied in a low murmur. It was even true. The universe was a far more beautiful place, when he was whole. And he was only ever whole when Finn was with him.
"I'd rather hear about your encounter. Rey, you said? I'd heard of Demeter's daughter... Or rather, I'd heard that I wasn't supposed to hear about her at all. I'm surprised you even met her."
"I think I heard Apollo mention her once," he commented, believing that Poe really was good and would do even better if they talked about other things.
Namely, talk about Rey. "I was exploring and I happened upon her in a field. She was creating this beautiful tree, and- well, I was curious so I approached but she was kind of armed so I didn't- Anyway, she said she was making it for nymphs to play in. We ended up climbing the tree and talking forever and-
"I want you to meet her. You'd love her. Oh, and I have to make her a gift. She said she was going to create a plant that could survive here. I should give her something, too." It wasn't like Hades was lacking riches, but would she want silver and diamonds and gold? Would she care about such things? Perhaps he could provide fertile soil to create whatever she wanted.
A smile flickered over Poe's lips as he watched Finn talk. He hadn't seen an expression like that on the man's face in a long time. And not for anyone other than him.
Should he be jealous?
For a second he considered it. But the emotion never flared. If anything, he felt compelled to tease him, and see if he blushed.
"Uh huh," He said, the smile growing. "She'd love me too, huh?"
Finn blinked and realized what Poe meant right before his face grew hot. "I mean- I only meant that you'd probably love her so she'd probably love you, too. That's all!"
Yeah, that's all!
But... he couldn't help a little grin and huffed laugh, pushing at lover's arm. "She's sweet, Poe. I like her. How often do we meet anyone that's sweet?"
"Mmmhmmm," He grinned, absolutely satisfied. "Pretty much never. I was thinking that other than you, it just wasn't something the gods would be capable of."
"You're going to go see her again, right? Maybe I can help make something to take with you."
"Please." If he told her that Poe helped with her gift, maybe she'd be more willing to meet with him.
Both arms wrapped around his love's neck as Finn planted a kiss on his cheek. "I've no idea what to bring her, and you're so good at gifts." Well, Finn loves any trinket Poe gives him so-
"She really is sweet," he said again, tucking his face into Poe's neck happily. "I hope you like her."
A real, honest warmth bloomed in Poe's chest, making the edges of his eyes crinkle.
"Mmm, I don't see how I couldn't," He teased Finn lowly, turning his head to press a kiss to Finn's cheek bone, raising a hand to lightly brush his fingers against his scalp. "Not sure I can resist when she makes you smile like this." He pressed a little closer, pressing another kiss but now to Finn's ear.
"I would give you anything in the world or below to see you happy. Maybe we should get her to come visit?"
Finn was definitely pretty happy right now and he showed it when he pulled far enough away from Poe to flash a big smile at him. "I think she'd love that. I mentioned a visit to her, and she really seemed to like the idea. I'll ask her officially when I see her again."
Overwhelmed by all this joy, he leaned forward again to take Poe's lips, kissing him deeply before pulling back again. "Thank you."
Poe lingered a little in that kiss, happy to bask in it. Finn had always been his source of joy, in this place, even though he couldn't quite remember how they met. They'd always been destined for each other, two halves of a whole. But he'd always believed Finn had deserved better than this. That maybe he was built for something else, that maybe he was built to walk the surface and bring comfort to the dying and the people who loved them. That maybe the words whispered to haunted souls should have fallen on mortal ears. Sometimes he wondered if it was his own weakness that kept Finn down here. That because he couldn't do the job by himself, that Finn's creation had been twisted and changed from what it should have been.
Finn had saved him, and he would never forget it, but he could tell there was something missing.
For the first time in a long, long time, Poe could almost feel that missing hole filling in. Maybe this is what Finn had needed all along. That connection to the surface - that connection to light, to love, to creation.
Gods, but he wanted to give it to him.
"Come on, then, I have an idea," he said, twining his fingers into Finn's and squeezing them together. "I'll build a banquet hall, but maybe we can build her an urn - something large enough to spawn a tree in - fill it with the richest earth in the underworld. Let her have a piece of below to grow things in, up above."
A banquet hall. They had never needed such a thing before, never had guests who could come, much less wanted to. His smile grew bigger and bigger as he followed Poe, picturing his idea and what sort of thing she could create.
"I think that's brilliant... I think it's amazing. She's sure to love it. We could help give life. Can you imagine?"
He hoped she loved it. His gift was just a lot of soil. Who liked soil? But maybe she would if it was good enough. If Poe thought this idea up, then it couldn't be a bad plan.
Finn’s joy was infectious, and Poe wanted to kiss him silly and take him to bed and just let him talk about why he was so happy while Poe pleasured him. Maybe later. For now, he just started walking, squeezing Finn’s hand.
“Yes,” he replied. He could easily picture Finn giving life to things. After all, he’d given Poe a new life. “I can imagine it. Maybe she can teach you how.”
"Really? Is that possible?" Even if it was, surely that sort of thing wasn't allowed. Finn had his job. He shouldn't dabble in others, right?
Right?
Yet his mind was coming alight with ideas, one after another of how better he could comfort the souls if he could give them a piece of life. Or would that make everything worse? He wanted to try. "That would be amazing," he breathed out, voice full of awe and eyes locked off into distant space, trying to imagine it.

Finn pressed a kiss to Poe's cheek, smile impossibly wide. "I hope I can learn, then. I'd make you something new every day."
Wrap here?
“Mm, you already do,” he teased in a low rumble, turning his head to steal a kiss. “Come on, then. Let’s get started.”
