Rey was still getting used to the new life she had. So many things happened within a matter of weeks; going to Greece on a scholarship to study abroad, finding her family--her lovers, and learning so much of her past. It was overwhelming, and it all sounded crazy, but they were making it work. She had gone from not having a family to having one. The pain and ache she felt from being disconnected from the people who loved her, and knowing she had been all along...it was hard to believe.
But it felt like the piece of her that had been missing was there. Poe and Finn had come into her life and filled in the gaps and cracks years of loneliness had left her. She was still trying to get the hang of being part of a 3 person marriage, unsure if she should come between them, or if they wanted privacy to be their own couple, but she was learning. It hadn't clicked for her just yet, that was she wasn't the addition to the relationship, but an equal part of it.
While they did go out together, all three of them, she thought it would be a good idea to go out on smaller dates, between two people, so she could get to know Poe and Finn all over again.
She plopped down next to Finn on their spacious bed, curling around him and draped one arm over his side.
"Would you like to explore more of a city, or go see a movie? What would you like to do?" she asked, knowing full well they could go to any city they wished, England or Greece or anywhere. He could want to do something positively mortal and modern, but that was okay with Rey. Her memories were coming in a little at a time, but she wanted to spend time with Finn, just the two of them.
Finn smiled, snuggling close to Rey. He often didn't initiate contact like this, giving Rey the freedom to choose if she wanted to come to him or not. When she did choose this, though, he could scarcely be happier.
Things had been getting better and better with time. Perhaps they didn't even have to adhere to the six-month rule anymore, either. A paltry consolidation for their separation but one Finn would take gladly. Though he did often think of Demeter, wondering if she knew of Rey and if they should tell her, but his mind would quickly move on to something far more important to him.
Like this. Just being close.
"Exploring, I think. I greatly enjoy movies, but I'd rather spend time talking with you instead. If that's all right?" Films were very interesting and exciting to him, just like many other human marvels, but there was a time and place to sit quietly and watch these shows. He didn't want that now. Every moment with Rey was too precious.
The six month separation didn't occur to Rey, as she barely remembered it, and thought the other gods to...no longer exist? Or, perhaps didn't care anymore? There were still great gaps in her memory; such as the finer details of the actual events that lead to her living in the Underworld, or what a bitch Demeter was. Or, the events that lead up to her death and by whose hand.
If anything, she thought the pantheon had been disbanded.
"Yeah? How many have you seen?" she asked, curious to know. Movies were a great way to escape the norm and just...explore different themes, and watch different stories unfold.
"No, that's perfectly fine. We can save a movie night for the three of us." Maybe watch it in a theater, or in their room with popcorn and Beebee begging for pieces. Something fun, or action driven? Thoughts for another time.
"Exploring the town and seeing the different markets would be fun. Or even going down to the coastline." Either way, it would be a fun adventure for the pair, but first they would have to leave their bed...which seemed to be a challenge these days.
She leaned into Finn, pressing a soft kiss to his lips, and then another one to his forehead.
"I've seen a great many," he answered with a laugh, "Then again, it must be at least a decade since I've watched a movie." Make that three. "I think that sounds nice, though. Poe would enjoy it."
Finn snuggled in closer to her, humming in contentment. Maybe they'll go somewhere, maybe they wouldn't. He was just content to be next to her again.
"I do love markets. So many people and things to see... but the ocean is lovely, too. All the life thriving from the waters. It's quite a sight... The coast. The market sounds fun, but I want our date to be us. We can people watch another time."
"We'll do it then. It's been a few years since I've seen a movie, but it'll be fun." Something they all haven't seen and wouldn't mind watching on the surface? Or Underworld? Semantics that they could figure out later on. For now, they had more pressing matters to focus on, like where they should have their date.
"And what sounds more like 'us'? Hm?" she asked, curiosity in her brown eyes, the corners of her lips tugging into a smile. The coast....it was growing on her. The sight of the ocean, the waves lapping or crashing against the shoreline. The smell of the sea air...the sand they could walk on. The sound of birds calling out to each other.
"Could still do people watching at the cost too..." Rey hummed softly, closing her eyes as she leaned in to press her forehead against his.
"Could look for seashells, maybe bring back something for Poe..." Because she couldn't forget about him. Yes, it was their date, but they were part of one another.
"I like that," he said with a slowly growing smile. "You know how much Poe loves our gifts. I think it's a great idea."
People watching on the beach, walking hand in hand with Rey... Yes, he loved this.
Finn kissed her and gently sat up, not wanting to dislodge her too much. He liked this closeness, too. "Any coast in particular?" he asked, eyes flashing purple as the traces of a doorway appeared in the wall, waiting for a destination. He was thinking somewhere with white sands and clear water if she had no opinions.
Rey let out a soft chuckle, and nodded her head in agreement. Poe did enjoy their gifts, even if it was something simple, he treasured it; be it an actual gift, or a kiss...or a smile met for him. As protective and fierce as Poe was when she met (or re-met?) him, he was a teddy bear on the inside. Whereas Finn...he was softness, warmth, and peace personified.
The kiss sent a shiver through her. Desire, and longing gently curled in her, yearning for more. Soft kisses, the kind that made her feel like she could melt in his arms, always made it so difficult to pull away from. Even harder to resist. She kissed him back, briefly aware they were sitting up now. Rey's eyes flickered down to Finn's soft lips, torn between giving him another kiss or pulling away...
He could feel it too, that bubbling desire to keep kissing him, and her hesitation to pull away.
"Doesn't matter. I don't have a preference." She didn't. Going to the coast would be a treat in and of itself, and with Finn? Even better.
While Finn picked the destination, Rey focused on trying to change her clothes again. Her memories were coming along, but her powers were slowly returning to her. She needed more time, and more training to be where she was before, but she wasn't completely hopeless. Focusing on what she wanted, she drew in a deep breath and felt the material on her body change. Soon she was wearing shorts with plain tennis shoes,a dark green tank top, and a baseball cap to cover her head.
Comfortable and practical? Yes. Stylish? Not so much. Rey wasn't one for fancy clothes or expensive swim wear.
Finn did feel her desire and it made him smile back in turn, not a speck of bashfulness in him. Not for this- for them. He wanted Rey to know that she was wanted, not to mention welcome to take.
But she seemed to make up her mind, so he turned to the doorway and imagined a beach of white sands and clear water. Somewhere in the Caribbean, probably. He wasn't great with names since they changed so often.
When he turned back, his eyes widened and he flashed a big smile. "You're getting better. You look amazing, Rey." Stylish or not, Finn thought she was the pinnacle of beauty.
The stairs appeared behind him on the far side of the room. "Ready for our date?"
Rey couldn't help, but duck her head a little. A bit shy when it came to compliments. Reminiscent of their first meeting, where the flowers she crafted began to curl up, acting on her bashfulness from such praise.
"You look handsome too," she murmured softly, raising her head to look at him again, a smile on her face and eager to go on a date with her husband. Rey squeezed his hand, moving to stand up from their bed and held out her hand to him.
"I am. I've been looking forward to our date for a long while." Really, she had. The chance to get to know her lover all over again...to make new memories, it was worth it.
Finn rose up and grabbed her hand, twining their fingers together with a big smile. He didn't have much in the way of plans for this excursion, just wanting to be with Rey. "Then let us stop waiting," he said and lead the way through the doorway.
Once they reached the top of the stairs, Finn pushed the door open to reveal the beautiful beach he'd just imagined. They emerged from the side of what looked like a storage shed and walked out into the privacy that his gift afforded them. Though there were people and families further down the beach, an optimal location to do anything Rey wished.
"What should we do first?" he asked, winding his arm around her waist. "And what do you think Poe would like? Seashells maybe?"
Rey rose up to her feet, squeezing Finn's hand as they climbed the stairs. They left the Underworld for the surface. She didn't have to worry about carrying a bag, or a wallet with money or cards. Her cell phone was in one pocket (a habit she couldn't fully break herself of), but that was it. Nothing else on her person to distract her from the scenery and from Finn.
It was breath taking. The white sands, the sight of families and people further down the shore line, and overall perfect. She had only seen such places on television or in magazines, but never in person. She never thought she would be able to come to a place like this. The sun felt wonderful on her skin, and the sea air was so refreshing.
So much life and light. Things she had been aware of before, but now...it sang to her.
"I think seashells would be a wonderful start. There are shops further down that we could look in." she pointed to the little shacks further down the shore.
"But...I have an idea..." she gently pulled away from Finn, tapping into her power again to leave her barefoot in the sand, making it a bit easier to walk down to the waves. Reminiscent of him lead her down to the River Styx all those years ago.
"I can't believe how clear and blue the water is. It's breathtaking, isn't it?"
Finn watched her pad away with a gentle smile on his face, content in that moment to simply observe Rey back among the realm of the living once again. If she didn't clearly adore them and their home, he'd almost feel guilty for keeping her from it.
But that was her choice, and he was not about to change her mind.
When she spoke, Finn blinked back to himself, realizing that he wasn't simply watching from afar. They were here. Together.
He smiled again and willed away his own shoes, walking forward to join Rey. "It is," he said wistfully. "But so are you. I'm glad you like this place."
"Me?" Rey repeated, unable to stop smiling, even as she felt a bit...shy about the compliment. Breathtaking was reserved for super models, or extremely handsome men, or anyone else other than her. Rey thought she looked ordinary enough. She was a wall flower, someone who faded into the background because she was so used to surviving that she didn't pay much attention to anything else.
Now, it was quite the opposite. Now, she could do what she liked and not care about finances, or worry about getting a third or fourth job.
"I wouldn't say breathtaking, but this place...I never thought I'd see something so beautiful." With the exception of the garden she created eons ago, the home that she returned to. Back into the arms of her husbands.
"Did we do this a lot? Go to different places like this?"
She was, though. She was breathtaking and beautiful, everyone knew.
Finn's arm wrapped around her waist gently, moving close and intending to change her mind, but she continued on and he smiled. That was okay. He'd work every day to change her mind.
"Sometimes," he admitted. "I used to like wandering the surface sometimes, but Poe and I usually stayed home. When you came into our lives, we got out a lot more. Whenever and wherever you wanted to go, we tried to be by your side. At least one of us, most of the time.
"But back then, things were a lot busier. We were usually confined to the Underworld. That's why, when you had to come to the surface-..." He didn't know how to describe it. And he didn't have to. "But that's all in the past now. We don't have to be separated anymore."
He wondered if Demeter was even still around, if she knew of Rey's return or about any of this. If she ever approached them, Finn wouldn't let her take Rey again.
Her footsteps came to a slow halt, giving Finn the chance to hold her without her moving. They looked like a handsome couple, walking down the shoreline, enjoying the sun and the ocean. Poe would feel an echo of their happiness, and Rey would make sure to take plenty of pictures to show him. Technology really came in handy for moments like these.
"...Because both of you couldn't leave the Underworld." One of them always had to remain. All three of them couldn't walk the surface without there being some prophecy bringing doom, or someone thinking the end of days was near. That was a memory that stuck out the most to Rey. She couldn't be out with both her husbands.
But that wasn't an issue anymore. The old ways were gone, and who knows what remained of their pantheon.
"When I came to the surface, I had to leave you behind..." Rey finished softly, moving to place her hands on top of Finn's, her fingers sliding in the space between his.
"No, we don't have to be separated, and I hope you don't feel like I've done that." Doing dates between two people rather than the three of them.
Cute date: Finn
But it felt like the piece of her that had been missing was there. Poe and Finn had come into her life and filled in the gaps and cracks years of loneliness had left her.
