Finn blinked down at him a few times before looking around and trying to gather their surroundings. "Beach," he answered, coughing once before getting his bearing again. "The ocean. I don't know where."
He even looked up at the sky, wondering if he'd see moons or rings or anything to tell them whether this was or wasn't Earth.
no subject
It looked like any beach on Earth, though. In fact it almost looked like a beach in Florida near the bunker where they'd been. Poe groaned and forced himself to his feet, suddenly very aware that he was naked.
"Uh--" Probably not dead, then? He reached down to offer Finn a hand up. "Okay I have a lot of questions but I'm pretty sure we can't answer them."
no subject
He didn't feel dead. He was breathing and aching and there was sand in places he'd rather they not be. But if he was alive, then the sand can be wherever it damn well pleased.
Actually, he was fairly certain they were really, really alive.
"We're not dead," he said again, a grin starting to form on his face. They aren't dead! And they're together! "What happened?" he asks happily, looking goofy as hell and not caring at all.
no subject
“My only guess is Lachesis... she must have managed to get us to a new world.”
no subject
He wonders... if everyone else would also be naked. Like maybe clothes didn't carry over and they won't be the only people walking around like this. But he still has the ring, so that's not... likely.
They'll deal with that later. He'll also ask more about this ring later, old uncertainties threating to raise their heads again.
"Okay-" Ignoring all of that, they were still alive and together and didn't miss a moment of each other. "Okay, we won't find answers or people on this beach." No matter how nice it is and how grateful he is for its very existence, they need to move along. Hopefully, they had a lot more time to linger around now.
no subject
He noticed Finn’s fingers fidgeting and felt a flood of relief when he saw the ring. His heart clenches and he grabbed Finn’s hand to press a warm kiss to his knuckles. And the ring.
“Yeah. Okay. Figure out where the hell we are, find some clothes, go from there?”
no subject
But he couldn't. It wasn't fair to ask if Poe did mean it. He didn't want to know if Poe didn't.
So instead, he took a step closer and wrapped Poe in a tight hug. "Sounds like a plan," he muttered against him with a big smile, threatening to start crying again. But no, not now. C'mon, Finn. He pulled away and grabbed Poe's hand. "All right. We can do this," he said, starting to walk basically aimlessly but further inland.

They were clothed and fed and stuffed into a hotel complete with an armed guard. Poe had tried to ask who else had turned up but they weren’t willing to entrust him with that information, despite his protestations that he was in the Air Force. It turned out they were a slightly special case in that they were the only ones to turn up naked, which Poe had turned bright red while bluntly explaining what they’d been doing at the end of the world, and had managed to make a few of the officers blush at the same time. There had been a little snickering, but mostly it was just uncomfortable.
Poe had stubbornly held Finn’s hand for basically the entire time.
He only dropped it once they were shown into their hotel room, a guard put outside their door, but now in relative peace.
He sighed and ran a hand through his hair.
“Okay. Okay, that could have gone better, but it could have gone a hell of a lot worse.”
no subject
Also, he wasn't too thrilled about the guard outside. The man seemed nice enough. That wasn't the problem. Finn still kind of felt like a prisoner.
But they were alive.
"We'll figure more out tomorrow," he answered with a sigh, exhausted but strung tight on nerves and adrenaline. It had been... a long day. At least he had a little smile on his face. "But, yeah. Could have been worse." He wasn't thinking about all the ways it was almost worse. He was thinking about their incredible luck.
"Guess we stayed together after all."
no subject
“I knew we would.” Okay, apparently all that fear he’d felt? Completely replaced by smug bravado now. Sorry Finn. “But yeah. We can figure the rest out tomorrow.”
no subject
Finn was happy with smug bravado. It was better than everything else that came before. So he smiled happily and moved closer, flopping on to the bed, too, so that he could curl around... his lover. Husband still? Whatever. They hadn't talked about it all yet, and Finn kind of didn't want to.
So he held Poe tight, resting his head on his shoulder. "I'm glad you were right." He wished he could say that he never doubted Poe but it wouldn't be honest.
Dammit, he needed to ask. He needed to make sure. It all seemed to be okay, they held hands the whole day, but he- It- Okay. Okay, he can just do it in a joking manner or something. That was fine. "You think marriage carries over, too?"
Smooth, Finn.
no subject
“I’m not sure about that,” he decided solemnly, pushing up on one elbow so Finn was forced to slide off his shoulder and onto the bed, before Poe shifted into his side to look down at him. He looked very very solemn. Too solemn. Over acting at its finest.
“I think I’d better ask again, just to make sure it sticks,” he continued, unable to keep up the facade, a lopsided grin breaking through. He leaned down to press a kiss to Finn’s lips, a little difficult when he was smiling like that. “Will you marry me, Finn?”
no subject
But Poe continued and smiled at him and kissed him and-
Finn tackled him, flipping their positions a little too roughly until he was the one on top. "Don't scare me like that!" Though he meant it seriously, the words hardly seemed like a threat when he was smiling so wide, relief pumping through his blood.
He laughed, going a little crazy from the entire situation. "Yeah, Dameron. I'll marry you. Bad jokes and all."
no subject
He grinned up at Finn, eyes shining with humour and zero remourse.
“Good, because I don’t think I would be able to help them anyway,” he teased, reaching up to cup Finn’s face. His own smile softened a bit, a warmth blooming in his eyes.
“I’m just glad I get a chance to make good on my promise.”
no subject
"We're both getting the chance," he answered back with a happy sigh before leaning down and kissing Poe deeply.
But the position reminded him a lot of where they were before, so he rolled on to his side a little reluctantly. He kissed Poe on the jaw to make up for it.
no subject
“Though we do have an important question to consider,” he pointed out, his tone teasing. “Are you going to take my name or are we going to have to make one up or—“
no subject
He glanced down to Poe's chest, mind far away. "Finn Dameron," he said to himself, a tiny smirk starting to appear on the edge of his lips. "Yeah. I like that. Finn Dameron."
He liked that a lot. "You know that means you've given me two names now," he teased, looking back up to Poe.
no subject
When he smiled this time it was far less teasing and far more warm.
"Yeah, I don't think I mind that at all," he admitted, far too touched to play it casual. He leaned in, hand on his raised hip, as he pressed a gentle kiss to Finn's lips.
"Think that's something I'll happily lay claim to for the rest of my life."
Especially now that they had a life to have the rest of.
no subject
He kind of wanted to thank him for this, for everything, but wasn't sure if that was even appropriate. Finn was thankful, though, and he hoped it showed in the deep kiss he gave his... husband.
no subject
Damn. Yeah. He could do this for about a month, after all that.
"Think they'll let us go to Guatemala for a honeymoon?" he teased quietly, lips still on Finn's when he spoke.
no subject
He kind of felt like he could do anything. It wasn't just what they'd been through but also Poe's endless love propelling him to such confidence. They had a new shot at everything. Might as well do what they wanted with it.
no subject
“Think we’ve deserved a little retirement,” he agreed with a lopsided grin, slowly kneading his fingertips into Finn’s chest.
“They can just come get us if the world starts ending again.”
no subject
But Poe's hand gave him some ideas, namely-... He found the hem of Poe's shirt, his hand getting underneath to spread over warm skin.
no subject
He was getting ideas, too.
“Hey,” he murmured, his voice dropping low. “We have some time to kill, and, well, a marriage to consummate—“
no subject
He certainly wasn't disagreeing, though. Finn pressed closer against him, knee pushing between Poe's legs.
