She'd kissed him. It wasn't Finn that had told him. And it wasn't Rose. Of all people, it was Rey that relayed that piece of gossip to him, a week after the fact, and Poe felt his blood boil. Things had felt weird since Crait. Sure, he'd been a little too busy to really focus his efforts on making Finn his, but he was still working on it. He had a claim. He'd found him first.

And yet Rose just sauntered in and tried to take it from him.

He stewed on it, his mood souring, for almost two days. The nature of their lives right now meant that they didn't get any time alone, and this conversation was not one for prying ears.

But eventually he finally gets a far away mission, and he gets a little ship - just enough room for him and one other person. He chooses Finn so fast that General Organa raises her eyebrows at him.

Still, he's silent for the first several hours of the trip, stewing darkly. It's not until they've been in hyperspace for a little while that he finally turns and says: "What the hell is going on with you and Rose?"

Something had been wrong with Poe for awhile. Crait had been hard on everyone, of course. After the stunt they pulled, he wouldn't have been shocked if Poe harbored anger and guilt from it. He would have liked to have thought it was that and not the alternative, which was that Poe had just always been this way. After all, how well did Finn really know him?

When he heard that Poe chose him for this mission, he'd been grateful and almost touched. Perhaps he could talk to him on this trip. Maybe getting away from the rest of the Resistance would do Poe some good, anyway. Whatever the problem was, he hoped this mission could help.

The silence for the start of the trip was killing him but he didn't dare interrupt. Poe seemed angry again. Not only did he not want to poke him right now but he also wanted Poe to come to him. At least until it seemed like he wouldn't.

When he finally spoke up, though, Finn was at a loss for words. Rose? What did this have to do with him and Rose?

"I-" He stays frozen to the spot for a second, confused until he finally just decides to answer the question and roll with it. Too bad the answer was kind of complicated, so he shrugged. "I'm not sure. She kissed me and she's nice, but with everything going on, we haven't had a lot of time to talk, much less-" He just waves his hands, as if that symbolized some sort of relationship. "Why? What's wrong?"

"She's nice." He repeats it with no small amount of bitterness.

"Is that what it takes? Be nice to you for half a day and then kiss you and you're in the game?"

His hands tightened uselessly on the controls, jaw working soundlessly. Finally, after a minute: "Do you like her."

What the hell? "Are you jealous?" It wasn't a question made out of sarcasm or anger. It was... shock. Was Poe jealous of Rose? For kissing him?

"Ah- That's not all it takes, no." But that one sounded a little angry, beginning before Poe could answer the question. "She's strong and smart and passionate. I don't know what I want with her but, yeah, I like her." On a similar level he liked Rey and Poe, anyway, but that wasn't really just in the realm of friendship either.

"Now what's going on with you?"

Poe's expression got darker, his breathing tighter, knuckles turning white.

"I'm not the one we're talking about, here," He retorted, shooting a glance at Finn. He was furious. Should he be? No. Probably not. He knew that wasn't the way people were supposed to work. That he didn't have any claim on Finn.

But that wasn't because he didn't want to. He'd just wanted to do it properly. Slowly. Kindly. He'd wanted Finn to want it as much as he did.

But, evidently, Finn wanted something different. And Poe couldn't stand it.

Abruptly, he stood, turning on the spot and stalking back to Finn, sliding right up close and jabbing a finger into his chest.

"You should figure out what you want," he said, his voice dangerous and low. "Because I know what I do. And you and Rose together is not it."

He was jealous. It went beyond that, though. Poe was furious at the mere idea of Finn being with someone.

The close quarters and jabbing finger wasn't frightening in the sense that Poe would have liked it to be. Finn wasn't really intimidated, but he was still scared for whatever the hell was happening right now to Poe and to their friendship. Finn thought they were friends, but this wasn't exactly how friends acted.

Not that he lots of experience with that. Or with Poe, for that matter.

"What do you want?" he asked, standing his ground but clearly worried about it. Idly, he wondered what Poe would do if Finn did choose to be with Rose.

He glared at Finn, anger boiling that was only half about Rose and half for himself. He was ruining this, and he knew it, but he could barely think straight about it. Every time his brain pictured Rose's lips taking Finn's---

Ugh, he was upset. He could feel it scraping at the back of his throat, behind his eyes.

"Do you really not know?" He snapped, his voice thicker than he meant it to be. "Just because I didn't - Just because I waited, just because I didn't force it, have I been that fucking opaque this whole time?"

As soon as Finn even tried to reply, Poe surged forward, grabbing his face and planting a crushing, claiming kiss to his lips.

Force it? Finn was about to ask as much, knowing that more questions would just piss him off further, but that was before the kiss came.

It was sudden like Rose's had been, but where hers was sort of sweet, this was anything but. Poe was desperate, harsh. Finn was too stunned to respond before instinct kicked in and he pushed back. This wasn't a kiss, though. It was too mean to have such a sweet name. He didn't know what this was.

When that sense settled in his mind, he tried to pull away.

He didn't linger. It was a point, and as soon as Finn started pulling away that anger bloomed in his chest again and he took his own space backward, turning his back and letting out a litany of colourful swear words as he threw himself down in the pilot seat.

He needed to calm down. He was ruining everything.

"Is it clear enough for you, now?" He growled, without looking at him.

Not much at all was clear, actually, but Finn could finally take a moment and think while Poe was turned away. What he did know was that Poe wanted him and it had pissed him off that someone else had tried to get there first.

In truth, Finn had wanted Poe, too. He didn't think that was even a possibility, though. That part had certainly been cleared up.

Poe told him that he should figure out what he wants. Even though all of this was scaring him and didn't seem like a bright idea, he did still want Poe. The kiss had just made it better and worse all at once.

He swallowed hard, trying to make sure his voice stayed steady. "You never had to be jealous. I wanted you from the start."

Poe let out a long breath, his grip on the controls still far too tight, but trying to release them as he breathed.

Okay.

Okay, that was good. That was what he'd thought, but Rose just had to go and-- No. Enough. Stop thinking about her.

He released the controls and turned around, swivelling his chair to look at Finn, the anger ebbed away but something low and dark was curling in his chest instead. He thought about speaking. Looked like he might. But speaking had never been his forte in the first place, and with Finn's words--

He stood up. Slower, this time, as he stepped towards Finn, his gaze intent.

There was enough time to pull away, if Finn wanted to. But then Poe was reaching out, sliding his hand around the back of Finn's neck and pulling him into a deep, searching kiss. The brutality of the first kiss was gone, but none of the intent. This was to claim. There was nothing else it could be for.

"Poe-" Before he could finish whatever he's wanted to say, they were kissing again. This was different from before, deeper and seemingly more meaningful.

"Shirt off," he murmured roughly, pulling back only far enough to let Finn do it, his hands going for his belt instead. "You want me, Finn?" He pulled the belt clasp open with a snap.

"You barely even know what wanting something feels like, yet." He pulled the belt quickly, slamming their hips together, and then tossed the thing to the floor, discarded and forgotten.

His shirt was off before he could think through the command, tossing it to the floor with the belt. They were doing this, then? Now, like this? His fingers trembled for a lot of reasons: worry, desperation, uncertainty.

"I know what it feels like," Finn said back, still defiant in a way. All his life, he'd only ever wanted. It was having things that he was unfamiliar with, which made this a lot more intimidating than it normally would, which was already a lot.

He ground his hips back into Poe's, showing that he knew exactly what he wanted, but it was mostly bravado. That much was clear but the way breath shook out of his lungs and concern still hung in his eyes.

“Not enough,” he rumbled, pulling open the fastenings of Finn’s trousers with no hesitation, his own breath coming quick and fast.
