Finn had a hand over his eyes, not understanding how things could go on like this for so long without Poe actively trying. Irritated, he looked up at Poe to say as much before realizing his mistake.

Fuck- Fuck, Poe was gorgeous. And so damn happy and sweet. Finn was starting to feel slimy in comparison for wanting more than what they already had, than what Poe was already happy with.

"Natural." He cleared his throat one more time and looked back to the wall, making a mad grab for the soaps. "Right, I mean- I feel like I can be myself around you. More so than with anyone else. You're-" Oh man, this was never going to work. "You're special to me, Poe. I mean it."

At this point, he was just happy no one else was here so they couldn't see him die like this.

Poe was at least paying attention, this time, and could actually hear over the rush of water, and his expression shifted to something softer, deeply touched, and he reached out and gave Finn's shoulder a squeeze.

"Yeah. You're special to me too, Finn," he replied, his voice warm and with absolutely no expectation. It meant a lot just that Finn thought so well of him.

Even while his brain was groaning at himself, Finn smiled back at Poe and tried not to grimace. Yep. Went over about as well as expected. But at least Poe seemed touched by his words.

"Thanks, Poe," he answered with a sigh even though it was still sincere. "I'm glad we... agree."

Poe might be oblivious to any and all romantic overtures - not because he didn't see them but because he automatically assumed he was imagining things and thus dismissed them - but he was definitely not oblivious to that sigh. His brows furrowed a little bit and he gave another squeeze.

"You alright? Something up?" He asked, while he stood there completely naked with rivers of water running down his skin. You know. Like friends do.

Finn considered being honest, or as honest as he could when Poe was this dense about the subject, but his eyes caught his chest and waist and- He jerked his head up and looked away, face warm again. "Yeah. I like you a lot too, Finn," He replied, his voice just and edge too soft. But he caught himself and he forced a stronger smile to his lips and pushed that wistful, longing feeling away as he began scrubbing himself again. "You know you can ask me anything. I've got you."

For a second there, just for a second, Finn thought he had him. Then Poe slipped away again like he always did. Months, he'd been trying to do this. Months.

He wasn't giving up today. "I know. I know you do." Poe definitely had him in more ways than one.

Then... a genius idea hit him. "Hey, so, out of curiosity, if you were into someone, how would you... go about it? How would you ask them out?" He didn't care if Poe said his home planet's mating rituals included shooting himself in the foot, at this point. He was doing it.

Poe’s smile faltered for half a second but he quickly plastered it back. Oh. That’s what this was about. Finn had fallen for someone. Probably was trying to reassure Poe that their friendship still mattered by promising quality time. He felt his heart sink but it didn’t show up on his face.

“Uh—“ Okay, Dameron. No letting Finn down. Gotta be helpful. “I haven’t thought much about it in a while.” He didn’t want to be with anyone other than Finn, so what was the point? “I guess, uh- I’d ask them on a date? That seems like the most logical step.”

So I’m sure they’d be thrilled if you told them that you had feelings for them.” A pause. “I guess if I were you I’d be like- ‘Hey, Rey, I know we’re friends and you mean the world to me, but I want to be so much more than that, if you’ll let me.’ I think she’d get that.”

Okay, good! He had a script. But- "It's not Rey." Being clear. That's the point of all this.

Though, he couldn't imagine Poe keeping quiet about his own feelings. That felt wrong. "And you're actually amazing, though. You-... I bet you mean the world to a lot of people. Myself included." He was faltering. Why was this so hard? "We-... Maybe- Would you be interested in being more than friends?"

Finn practically held his breath.

Poe frowned. Finn was... being very weird and not particularly clear. Not Rey, though. So who—?

“Uh-“ Give him a second as he idly scrubbed soap over his nether regions, which was surely not distracting at all. “I mean, not with just anyone, no, I’ve kind of had my eyes on someone for a long—“

And then it clicked, finally, and he froze.

Finn had already let go of his breath, sure that this attempt had fallen through, too.

But then Poe understood. Somehow, someway, he finally got it. And he was already agreeing, already saying yes, and Finn was still flagging behind with this glorious news happening so fast.

“... Well, this is embarrassing,” Poe admitted ruefully, the flush spread under his skin but he was lucky - it was probably hidden since the warm water had already reddened him.

“I talked myself out of asking you out months ago. I was sure that you didn’t—“ the reality of the situation was starting to sink in, though the first part of him that was really understanding the implications was his cock, and it was beginning to twitch where it lay in its nest of bubbles.

Finn's smile was slow but bright and large, inexplicably happy. "I can do better, I think."

It probably wouldn't help Poe's situation at all, actually, but Finn leaned in to place a light kiss against his lips. Nothing rushed or urgent or desperate. Just a gentle press, as if he'd forgotten the scene they were in completely. "That okay?" he murmured.

Poe had not forgotten the scene they were in - was all too aware of it, as Finn was suddenly a lot closer - and yet the careful, gentle press was wonderful and perfect and made him grin stupidly.

"... I dunno," He replied, lying utterly, "You might have to try it again. You know. For sample size sake."

Finn chuckled beneath his breath. "To think I thought you were innocent," he muttered before ducking forward for another soft kiss.

His hand moved to Poe's waist, and it was then he finally remembered the scene. It didn't stop him like some of his conscience recommended. He just held Poe a little firmer and tried to not touch more than was offered.
