Finn took a deep breath, trying very hard to reboot his brain and think about this. "It's okay," he quickly reassured before wondering if that was actually okay.

It was a mistake, wasn't it? He shouldn't encourage this, not right now. But he just missed Poe so much, was trying to mourn the loss of their connection while the man himself was standing right here, kissing him.

"I-" He stopped, choking on his words for a second before continuing quietly. "I don't want to take advantage, Poe. I just... want you to be comfortable and happy and not feel like you have to do anything." The sentiment's already been spoken but it can't hurt to repeat.

Poe’s heart practically ached with fondness, the smile pulling at his lips probably more felt, than seen, at this distance.

“I know I shouldn’t want this,” he murmured quietly. “I know I should- give you time. Give us both time.”

He leaned closer, pressing another kiss to Finn’s lips that was just as sweet, squeezing his hand.

“But I can barely believe what I’ve found and I don’t see why I should waste a second if it. He - I - was right. You’re incredible, Finn.”

Was he really 'incredible' right now or just weak and needy? But was still here, still giving him sweet kisses, and Finn had been nothing but growing pain and fear for the last sixteen days. He should separate them with a smile and peck to his forehead. He should bring up that Poe didn't want to date anyone. He should do something that wouldn't hurt later.

But it would all hurt, anyway, so his hand pressed into the back of Poe's neck before he took him into a deep, longing, aching kiss.

Poe let out a soft sound, the depth surprising him, but he answered to it immediately, sliding an arm around Finn's waist and pulling him closer as he deepened the kiss.

Something taut in his chest felt like it unwound - days worth of torture and stress just put aside for something soft and beautiful. It was enough to make his heart ache, and he pressed closer, soaking up every drop of goodness that ebbed off of Finn like he was dying of thirst.

Finn grunted into the kiss, his hand fisting gently into Poe's hair, but he was already pushing away to breathe again. He really had to calm down.

"Sorry, I- I just-" Breathe. "I was so scared and now you're-" Oh. There's a tear on his cheek. Finn quickly brushes it away, removing his hand from Poe's hair and laughing it off. "I'm sorry."

He shouldn't want this either.

Ah, shit. Not a great sign.

Poe offered a pained smiled, raising a hand to cup Finn's cheek and brushed any remaining moisture from his cheek.

"Hey. No. My fault, Finn, it's okay. Too fast, huh."

Finn relaxed, leaning into Poe's touch. "No." Probably. Yes.

His hand held Poe's again, breathing enough to get himself under control again. If they were going to do this- "No," he breathed again and took another kiss.

He knew, now, that he wasn't helping. But he was a weak man, and Finn was clearly making his own choices - ones that Poe was not very resistant too. He let out a low groan from the back of his throat as Finn took another kiss, and he gave it back to him. Eagerly. Willingly.

The hand on Finn's cheek slid back behind his head, pulling him in as Poe deepened the kiss with a low hunger.

He wondered if it had felt this good when they'd first kissed.

He wondered if it had felt better.

Instead of worrying about all of the stupid, later regrettable shit he was doing to himself right now, Finn decided to just let himself drown in it. This was still Poe who still, against all odds, cared for him like this. Whatever happened tomorrow or later would be to make Poe was going to be okay. It's all that really mattered.

Finn's hand roamed lower, grazing beneath the collar of Poe's shirt before gently guiding him back towards the couch. The other hand was at his waist, just holding on while he kissed him as deeply as he wanted.

Poe was all too happy to let him lead - both toward the couch but also in the depth of their kiss. He pressed a little closer as they shuffled backwards, his whole body picking up on the memo, which was painfully obvious when he groin brushed Finn’s hip.

It was so good, so completely antithetical to the last few days of Poe’s existence that his heart clenched in his chest and he started chuckling against Finn’s mouth, despite himself.

Finn hissed a gasp when Poe brushed against him, a lot of other ideas coming to the forefront of his mind that he probably shouldn't be considering right now.

But by the time Finn found the couch, Poe was laughing. He smiled, confused but delighted, laughing a little, too. His hand combed through Poe's hair as he pulled apart to look at him. "What's so funny?"

“Yesterday I was wandering in the desert thinking that I’d gotten us off that ship and then immediately gotten you killed,” he pointed out, amusement crinkling his eyes as their gaze met.

“Now I’m - hell, I’m wherever the hell this is, with a man who is very much alive and very adept at kissing me exactly the way I like it. That’s just funny, right?”

It was definitely something, but Finn smiled anyway. He had to smile. What else could he do?

"It is kinda funny," he relented, pressing their bodies close again. "Kind of a miracle, too. I don't think I've thanked you yet for getting me out."

Actually. He's not certain he ever thanked him.

"Definitely a miracle," He agreed, his voice going a little breathless as Finn pressed close.

"I should be thanking you," He murmured, leaning in to steal another kiss. "You rescued me, remember? I just did the flying."

"Right, the part that got us out," he answered with a cheeky, lopsided grin. "Best pilot in the Resistance doesn't need to be humble."

It was sort of teasing but sort of not. He wished Poe always thought more or himself, something closer to what Finn thought of him. Hero of the people and all that. But instead of continuing his praises, he just took another kiss and pressed into him.

They shouldn't go further than this, right? They should slow down.

"Best pilot in the galaxy, thanks," he smirked, but then Finn was kissing him again and he was absolutely and totally on board with this.

He stepped backward again, moving then both toward the couch, trying to give himself a reality check and failing. But when they finally made it there and Poe stepped too far and ended up falling backwards right over the arm of the couch and falling into it while pulling Finn down with him? The thump gave him the insentive he needed to actually think about what he was doing.

Everything in him told him to keep going. He wanted nothing more than to follow it to its inevitable conclusion. He hadn't been this horny in a long time. Hadn't let himself. No time, no space, and no partner.

But he was unfortunately aware that this may well just be him reacting very strongly to the fact that he - well. What was the term the pyschs would use?

Trauma?

Probably not a great plan, and yet.

He groaned a little, shifting under Finn's weight so he could breath properly.

"I, uh -- I really should let you go to bed, huh."

Finn was already laughing about the comeback when they fell into the couch, which shocked him enough to make laugh about that, too. A compromising situation to be sure, but he wasn't worried.

In fact, he was even less worried when Poe seemed to start pumping the brakes.

He took another kiss, not as deep but with just as much meaning before picking himself up a little better. "This was your unit before I barged in. The bed's yours." He pecked him on the chin, hoping that didn't leave any room to broker an argument, before pulling back again to look at him with every drop of love he felt. "I'm glad you're back, Poe."

"Nah, I'll take the couch," Poe said, but he smiled up at him, his heart doing a weird little flip in his chest. Damn. He was catching it bad.

"Pretty sure that room is yours. We can work out logistics later."

He didn't want to explain that he would feel really weird, displacing him just to be surounded by stuff - by a life - he didn't recognize. The couch at least would let him feel like he was just visiting, at first.

Finn hummed, tilting his head to the side, but stood up. He didn't let go of Poe's hand, though, flopping his arm up with him.

"You sure? This whole base is yours, you know. You can sleep wherever you damn well please, including your own bed."

Finn would feel guilty about it and just end up staring at the ceiling all night. In fact, he probably wasn't going to sleep anyway. Poe needed his strength. At the same time, Finn didn't want to keep pushing the issue if this was what he wanted.

"Yeah, I'll figure it out tomorrow. Tonight, I'm happy enough crashing on your couch," he teased, a smile pulling at the edge of his lips.

He squeezed Finn's hand.

"... Thanks, though. Pretty sure all of this... Yeah, not sure how I'd be dealing with any of this without you."

Not my couch, he almost said but forced the words back down. He knew what that felt like, after all.

But Finn squeezed Poe's hand back and replied, "You would have made it." Hadn't he made it before? How long was it before Finn arrived the first time? Had Poe even come in first?

Those were becoming too many questions, and Finn pushed it all down for the time being. "I'll find you some blankets," he said instead before letting go and setting himself out for the task.

"Thanks," Poe said again, his hand feeling cold the moment Finn dropped it. He waited until the man came back, took the blankets, and gave some sort of lame joke about it all before he watched the man disappear.

As soon as he was alone, the whole world shifted.

He let out a long, slow breath as he stared at the ceiling.

He'd done really well for the last several hours deflecting everything he could think or feel onto Finn, but now the rest of it was crashing in and he didn't know what to do with any of it.

He curled up onto his side and shut his eyes and just told himself to sleep over and over and over again.

Eventually his exhaustion finally took him, and his dreams welcomed him with thorned tendrils.

Finn didn't sleep. He stayed awake, lying in Poe's bed like he had so many other sleepless nights, except the owner was just down the hall. It felt like a dream or some sort of trick. He wanted nothing more than to sneak down the hall, sit in a corner, and watch Poe sleep like a creep. But he wouldn't let himself go that far. Not right now, at least.

He stayed there until about thirty minutes before sunrise before pushing himself out of bed. Sleep had been just on the edge of his periphery, perhaps he even nodded off a few times, but he was up now.

After scrubbing at his eyes hard and handling his business, he very quietly padded down the hall to check on Poe. Perhaps then he'd stop overthinking all of this.

Once he did spot Poe, though, he stopped and stared just like he told himself not to do. After a moment, he stepped over to drift a hand through Poe's hair, intending to say something but the words wouldn't come. There was nothing he could say anymore. Even if Poe was awake and wanted to hear-

Finn was out of the unit before he could finish that thought.

For all that he wanted to stay at Poe's side and truly smother him with his presence, Finn stayed out for a couple of hours. Long enough until his whole body ached and he realized that there was no way he could run away from everything he felt right now. It was just there, clinging on in a way that was much worse compared to after Poe left. But he's back now, so... didn't really matter.

A hand scratching at his scalp, Finn quietly walked back into the unit, poking his head around the corner to get a look at the couch again.

When he came back, Poe was yawning and stretching - making a very good, unknowing, impression of a cat. He blinked at looked up when he heard the sound of light footsteps, head poking up over the back of the couch before a smile broke over his face.

"Oh, hey. Did I sleep in? Did I miss something?"

Finn smiled back, feeling a weight lift from his shoulders. Poe was here and happy. That's all he really needed.

"No and no," he answered, taking a step over to kiss Poe on top of the head before moving away again. He should shower, right? Give him time alone to reassess and come back out a better person for Poe to be around. "I just like taking early morning runs... You hungry? I can make breakfast."

Or maybe he could be alone with his thoughts another time.
