flightforfreedom: (more dramatically in the window)

“I don’t want to.”

Poe swallowed, his voice dropping lower, as if he was trying to keep from being overheard despite the house being empty.

“But Finn, I... what if I’ve already done something and don’t remember? People don’t just lose a year for no reason.”
flightforfreedom: (so we blow it up)

[personal profile] flightforfreedom 2019-05-12 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
“I don’t know anything, but I know something happened. And with this weird stuff - I don’t know, maybe someone magnetized me? Maybe I’m a walking time bomb.”

He shifted a little closer, not even thinking about it, murmuring in the dark with Finn’s face close enough to be hard to focus on.

“But as long as you promise you’ll run...”
flightforfreedom: (get down off this junk)

[personal profile] flightforfreedom 2019-05-12 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Poe sighed.

“... Okay. Yeah. Okay.” He turned over onto his back and immediately regretted it, missing proximity. So instead he shuffled a little closer, until his side was pressed against Finn’s.

It wasn’t that simple. Of course it wasn’t. But he was exhausted and couldn’t do anything. But if he managed to relax, it would make life easier for Finn. So he was going to try.
flightforfreedom: (follow me)

It took a long time. But in the end, Poe was so exhausted that he slowly started to drift off. He didn’t really notice when his hand drifted to touch Finn’s knee, almost like an anchor point.

And he didn’t notice when the darkness finally took him.

90 minutes later, after Poe had had some uneasy but dreamless sleep, the dreams began again.

And so did the phenomenon.
flightforfreedom: (over shoulder)

[personal profile] flightforfreedom 2019-05-12 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
He didn’t wake, the voice too soft. His eyes were closed, his breathing even and heavy as the water slipped and twisted around itself.

The bowls were moving now, too, trembling as first and then slowly raising spinning like tops through molasses.

Poe’s hand on Finn’s knee twitched, and everything dropped half a foot before stabilizing and slowly rising again.
flightforfreedom: (on a call)

[personal profile] flightforfreedom 2019-05-12 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Poe let out a soft sound at the touch of fingers in his hair, and his eyes slowly fluttered open. This time, the objects didn’t immediately drop. Everything hung in the air, suspended, as Poe slowly roused, turning his eyes to Finn’s face.

He didn’t think to look at the bowls, his heart thumping at the tender touch.

“Did you—“ but as soon as he tried to speak everything crashed to the floor and Poe nearly jumped out of his skin again.
flightforfreedom: (oh fuck)

[personal profile] flightforfreedom 2019-05-12 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
His original question was lost, whipping around to see what had happened, finding everything scattered and the water soaking into everything.

He hadn’t actually believed it, at first. Had thought something was going on but that it had a reasonable explanation. But now?

He froze, staring at the discarded pile of bowls for a long, long moment.

“Fuck.”
flightforfreedom: (pause for one minute please)

[personal profile] flightforfreedom 2019-05-12 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Poe had been staring at where the bowls had dropped, only shaken from his reverie when the towels obscured his vision. He looked up at Finn, looking far more lost than Finn had ever seen him.

“... What happened to me?” He asked, a little desperate but still quiet.

As if he knew.
flightforfreedom: (in the blue light)

Poe didn't pull his hands away, but he didn't exactly reply to Finn, either. What was there to say?

Nothing made sense anymore.

He spent the next day sleeping. First he took everything out of his room other than his bed and the heavy furniture, and then he slept. He had endless terrifying dreams that he couldn't remember, but he didn't know what to do other than try to sleep it off and see if that changed anything.

The day after that, he got to work.

Without a word, he went straight outside in the morning, and didn't come back until the evening. He disappeared into the woods and told Finn he needed some time by himself, and came back only when it was starting to get dark. He ate. He collapsed.

He fell into this routine for the third and the fourth day, too, expression determined and defiant.

On the fifth day, he came back in the afternoon, eyes blazing with purpose, and through the backdoor open. "Finn! Finn!" he called into the the house, not even sure the other man was there.
flightforfreedom: (we'll figure it out)

[personal profile] flightforfreedom 2019-05-13 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
It was hard to tell if Poe was upset or just incredibly focused. There was no smile on his face, but he raised a clenched fist to signal Finn to stop where he was, and then opened his fist.

There was a shard of wood lying in his palm.

Nothing happened at first. Poe just stared at it as if willing it to explode. Several seconds passed and he started to look increasingly frustrated, until finally it started to move. It vibrated a little at first and then wavered, rising about an inch into the air as if hesitant - dipping back down into his palm before rising up again, trembling like a leaf on the wind.
flightforfreedom: (probably in trouble)

[personal profile] flightforfreedom 2019-05-13 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
"By chanting in ancient latin," Poe said wryly, but the thing wobbled and fell back into his palm the second he replied. He sighed and gripped it, looking at Finn.

"I don't know. I just - think real hard about it, I guess. Like trying to move a muscle that I can't feel. I don't know how to explain it."

He put the chip in his pocket.

"I guess in my sleep I... remember how to control it. That's the only way I can explain it."

Poe grimaced and looked away.

"... I'm going to have to watch my temper," He murmured. "I don't know, Finn. Maybe it is subconcious. But I promise you, I never made anything fly before I disappeared. So whatever this is... Something happened to me. Or someone did this to me. Or--"

He looked a little queasy.

"Could I be a ghost, maybe? I don't even believe in ghosts, but--"
flightforfreedom: (storm's a brewin)

[personal profile] flightforfreedom 2019-05-13 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
The hand was far more comforting that it had any right to be, and Poe found himself leaning into the touch.

“They’re going to lock me up, Finn,” he murmured. “If they find out... even Leia won’t be able to stop them. And what am I supposed to do? What if they ask me to stay overnight for observation for some reason, or—“
